Shalimar Country Club
Shalimar Country Cub
Shalimar Country Club is a unique and oddly charming nine-hole golf course located in Tempe, Arizona. The course is run down, the greens are slow and bumpy, the driving range is mostly dirt, but the people who call Shalimar home have a strong attachment to the course that goes beyond the game of golf.
Although it’s far from perfect, Shalimar is many local golfers’ second home, daily bar, and their escape from the everyday monotony. The members are eccentric, brazen, and rowdy. They start drinking during their first nine holes of the day as the sun comes up, and sometimes don't stop until it goes down. They refuse to conform to the well established and strict etiquette that has long been associated with golf. They don’t always play by the rules, but they always make sure to have fun.
If you are looking for a traditional day on the links and a 5-star treatment, Shalimar isn't the course for you. But I can ensure you that you will not find a more welcoming group of people who know how to have a good time over countless cold beers. Through each individual portrait, I aim to exhibit the unique personality of each member and display how their unconventional behavior and their love for the game of golf make Shalimar Country Club such an unorthodox, yet wondrous golf course.
